Although the whisky island of Islay is only a stone’s throw away from the island of Jura, on which the distillery of the same name is located, Jura whisky is more reminiscent of the whisky distilled on the mainland in the Highland and Speyside region than the strong smokers of the neighboring island. When Jura Distillery was founded in 1963, a conscious decision was made to create a whisky that would appeal to a wider customer base. Jura is a good example of the social aspect of sustainability. In the 1960s, the island was fighting depopulation. An initiative to create new jobs led the blender and bottler Charles Mackinlay & Company to produce whisky on the island (again). In keeping with this spirit, the distillery remains committed to this day, particularly within the community. The Jura 15 year old is the first bottling from PURE.WHISKY. with a focus on “social sustainability”. The maturation in a refill bourbon hogshead promises an accessible whisky with rough edges. <\/p>\n
